What is Vibrational Sound Therapy
How Does VST Work?
Vibrational sound therapy (VST) sessions involve placing Zen therapeutic singing bowls on, and around, your fully-clothed body. The bowls are gently struck to produce vibration and sound. The ambient tones lull you into deep relaxation, while the subtle vibrations from the Zen bowls offer a gentle “massage” to the cells of your body. Vibrational sound therapy sessions create an atmosphere of safety and security, which allows you to let go of stress, anxiety, worry, and other feelings that may have a negative impact on your health. In the soothing environment of a vibrational sound therapy session you can reconnect to your true self, opening pathways to a more creative and a connected state-of-being. Some of the wonderful benefits include:
-Deep relaxation
-Relieved muscle tension
-Improved body awareness
-Deeper, more restful sleep
-Reduction in anxiety and depression
-Improved concentration self-confidence, and creativity
-Revitalized mind, body, and spirit

"Sound is the Medicine of the future"
—Edgar Cayce
If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies.

How Does a Sound Bath Work?
The experience involves laying down or seated in a comfortable position an a mat listening to the instruments played with pure intention. Blankets, Pillows, and water are recommended as well.
Therapeutic instruments, such as crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, and gongs stimulate the alpha and theta brain wave frequencies associated with meditative, clear and peaceful states of mind.
Alpha brainwaves are present during light meditation, daydreaming and deep relaxation. Theta brainwaves are present during REM dreaming sleep, deep meditation and hypnosis. These states are considered the gateway to the subconscious mind and it's here where we experience heightened creativity, depth of imagination and access to the subconscious realms where deep seated healing can take place.
By connecting with your inner harmony, you will find yourself in a place where you are able to powerfully resonate with all things you would like to call into your life. One of the biggest results from attending a sound bath is a state of deep rest and relaxation.
What Happens During a VST Session?
Vibrational Sound Therapy (VST) has profound effects on the body and the mind. The VST method is above all a method of relaxation, and most people will reach this state of relaxation quickly, even during their first session. During a VST session the body will go through noticeable changes as it responds to deeper and deeper states of rest. Relaxation is not only a physical state but also a state of consciousness, and VST has very strong effects on alertness and perception. Relaxation during a VST session brings on the same kind of brain states as yoga, tai chi, and meditation.
Most clients will start to relax as soon as the session begins. Their muscles will lose tension, and they may even start to slip into the alpha brain wave pattern within the first minutes. The alpha wave pattern is associated with daydreaming and pre-sleep. At this point the clients breathing and heart rate will start to slow down, and the body will begin to absorb the waves of vibration into its tissues. The slowing of breathing and lack of muscle tension are both signs that the metabolism is slowing. Insulin levels will rise, and cortisol levels will fall. As the heart rate slows, blood pressure falls and arteries expand giving rise to a feeling of warmth. This relaxed state allows the body to repair itself instead of responding to outside concerns. The immune system is at its best when we are relaxed.
VST is so gentle and relaxing that almost all people will fall asleep at some point during the session. The theta brain wave state is associated with meditation, sleep, and deep relaxation. The delta brain state is a deeper form of sleep and is also associated with hypnosis and ritual. During normal sleep, people will oscillate between both of these states. The brain wave state of clients undergoing a sound therapy will change naturally and in reaction to the modality as positions are changed and different bowls are introduced.
Those who undergo a state of deep relaxation often report a feeling of mental freshness that they carry with them after the session is over. Relaxation and meditative states of mind have also been shown to increase the threshold for emotional response, meaning they can help us control our emotional responses to outside influences. Like other kinds of meditation, sound therapy can help us be more internally aware while being more present in the moment and more connected with our surroundings.
